Palm trees and river on the valley floor of Paradise Valley, near Agadir

Paradise Valley is a stretch of the Tamraght wadi valley, in the first foothills of the Atlas, on the road to Imouzzer. Palm trees, oleanders, small waterfalls and pools of clear water: it is a half-day outing that parents enjoy as much as children, as long as you choose your moment well.

Getting there from Agadir

Head north up the coast as far as Aourir, then take the Imouzzer road, which winds up into the gorges. Depending on where you start, the valley is 35 to 60 kilometres away: allow about an hour’s drive. The road is narrow and only partly surfaced, but an ordinary car is enough, no 4x4 needed.

The car is the simplest option: you leave whenever you like and head back when the children are tired. Group excursions also leave from Agadir and Taghazout, with hotel pick-up, usually in the late morning.

The car park and the walk to the pools

There is a paid car park at the entrance to the valley; guides offer their services there, with no obligation. From there, a main path leads to the first pools in ten to twenty minutes on foot. The trail is easy but rocky in places: you will need good shoes, and a pushchair cannot get through. For a quick visit to the first waterfalls, allow an hour; to explore the whole valley, a good half-day.

When to go

  • The best season runs from late winter to spring: the river is full after the rains, and the water level is often at its highest in February.
  • Summer is the least pleasant season: more people, less water in the pools.
  • Morning is the best time: it is cooler, the water is clearer, and the tour coaches mostly arrive around midday.
  • After heavy rain, the current and the water level can change quickly: check before you set off.

Swimming, and taking care with children

People swim in the natural pools, and some of the rocks form little slides. Young people jump into the deepest pools: these jumps are not supervised. Always check the depth first, and avoid jumping in the dry season, when the water is low. With young children, stay in the shallow pools and always keep them close to you.

What to take

  • Non-slip shoes, or walking sandals that can go in the water.
  • Swimsuits, quick-dry towels, hats and sun cream.
  • At least a litre of water per person, and something to snack on.
  • A little cash for the car park and the cafés.
  • Plan ahead for toilets: the last ones are in a shop by the roadside, before the valley.

Eating there

A few cafés and small restaurants are set up near the entrance and along the path: vegetable tagines, Berber omelettes, cold drinks. Out of season, some are closed. On the way, don’t miss the local thyme honey, renowned throughout the Souss.

Going on to Imouzzer and its waterfalls

Twenty-five kilometres further up, the village of Imouzzer Ida Outanane is known for its waterfalls. They only flow after good rains: dried up during several years of drought, they came back to life at the start of 2026. In summer or after a dry winter, they often have no water at all; check before making the detour.
