Agadir can be visited all year round. The Atlantic softens the summer, the sun keeps you company all winter, and the city keeps the same welcoming face from one season to the next. Each period still has its nuances, which are worth knowing before you set off with children.

Temperatures, month by month

Over the period 1991–2020, the Agadir weather station recorded afternoon temperatures of between 21 °C and 27 °C depending on the month, with more than 220 hours of sunshine in every month of the year. What little rain there is falls mainly from November to March, on three or four days a month at most.

Agadir in winter: December, January, February

In January, afternoons stay around 21 °C: you can stroll along the seafront in a T-shirt while Europe shivers. The evenings, though, are cool, around 8 to 10 °C, so a jumper and a light jacket will come in handy.

At around 17 °C, the sea is better suited to walks on the sand than to swimming, and the residence pools are closed from October to May. In return, the city is more peaceful, and the Christmas and February holidays have a feel of spring about them.

Spring and autumn, the mild seasons

From March to May, and again from September to November, Agadir probably offers its best balance: warm days without extremes, pleasant evenings and a city less crowded than in high summer. In September and October the sea still reaches 20 °C, which extends the swimming season.

The spring and All Saints’ holidays particularly suit families who want the beach, outings and sightseeing without suffering in the heat.

Summer, tempered by the Atlantic

In July and August, afternoons hover around 27 °C, far from the furnace of Marrakech. A light mist often covers the coast in the morning before lifting: it doesn’t stop you enjoying the day, but it is deceptive about how strong the sun is. The water stays cool, around 20 °C; those who feel the cold prefer the pool, open from June to September.

Families who know Agadir then follow a simple rhythm: the beach or an outing in the morning, lunch, a nap and the pool during the hottest hours, then a walk along the seafront and dinner out in the evening.

The chergui, a hot wind worth knowing about

Every so often the chergui wind, a dry wind from the Sahara, blows over the region, most often in summer and sometimes in winter. These episodes are exceptional and generally last two to five days, but they can push the thermometer above 40 °C. In August 2023, Agadir even went above 50 °C.

On those days, you stay indoors during the hottest hours, drink plenty, keep the children in the shade and save outings for the evening. Forewarned, you simply adapt your plans.

At the beach with children

Agadir’s great bay is lined by a long sandy beach that is easy to reach in every season. The Atlantic does have its waves and currents, though: swim in the supervised areas, respect the flags and keep the little ones in sight. Sun cream and a hat are still a must, even in winter and even in the mist.

Further north, Taghazout, a village known to surfers, is very popular with teenagers. From Hay Adrar, the sea is 15 to 20 minutes away by car, depending on traffic.

In the apartment, depending on the season

Let’s be upfront: our apartments have fans, no air conditioning. In the warmer months, people in Agadir follow a few simple habits: windows and curtains closed on the sunny side during the day, a good through-draught in the evening and at night, and fans running during the hottest hours. In winter, simply bring something warm for the evenings.

School holidays and high season

Summer is the season of reunions: many Moroccan families living abroad come back home and the city comes alive. French school holidays, at All Saints’, at Christmas, in February and in spring, also draw many families. For these periods, it is best to book early, both the accommodation and the car.

A car changes everything, whatever the season: you head to the beach at the time that suits you, come back for lunch out of the sun, or decide on the spur of the moment to visit Crocoparc or Lion Park. Our Dacia Sandero Stepway, air-conditioned and with no security deposit, can be waiting for you at the airport.

What budget for two weeks in summer?

In July–August, two weeks in a Cocon come to €617.40; with the Sandero, allow €1,035.09 in total, accommodation and car included, excluding cleaning (€20), for a family of up to six people. These amounts are calculated for a stay from 10 to 24 July 2027.

For a large tribe, both Cocons together offer 150 m² and beds for up to twelve: €1,524.60 for the same July dates. Outside the school holidays and outside July–August, the same stays cost noticeably less; the exact amount always depends on your dates. All our prices fit in a single table. For the neighbourhood and choosing your accommodation, our family stay guide answers the most frequently asked questions.

Whatever the season: Cocon 1 and Cocon 2, two 75 m² apartments for 6, each with its own style, or both together for 12.

Want to book everything at once? Apartment + car rental in Agadir from €63.50 a night; the other options are in the price table.
