Stade Adrar in Agadir, where HUSA matches are played, among others

People come to Agadir for the sea, the sun and the easy pace of life. But for football fans, and more broadly for curious families, there is another way to feel the pulse of the city: taking a seat in the stands of the Stade Adrar on a match night.

The Stade Adrar, an activity in its own right

The Grand Stade d’Agadir, which everyone here calls the Stade Adrar, is the main sports venue of the Souss-Massa region. Opened in 2013, it covers a 32-hectare complex and has 43,500 seats, according to SONARGES, the national company that manages the Kingdom’s major stadiums. Right from its opening, it hosted the FIFA Club World Cup.

And its story is still being written. Again according to SONARGES, the Stade Adrar is preparing to host matches of the 2030 World Cup, which Morocco is organising with Spain and Portugal, and its capacity is due to rise to 46,000 seats by then. Going to a match today means discovering one of the stadiums set to host this World Cup.

Above all, it is the home ground of Hassania Union Sport d’Agadir, HUSA. Founded in 1946 and nicknamed the “Gazelle of the Souss”, the club is backed by loyal supporters, whose passion makes up a good part of the show. Going to one of its matches means sharing a moment that local people enjoy among themselves, far from the tourist trail.

Why see a match on holiday?

First, for the atmosphere. The chants rising from the stands, the flags, the wait before kick-off: a match at the Stade Adrar is something you experience as much as watch, and it often leaves a more lasting memory than yet another guided tour.

Next, for the shared moment. A father-and-son evening, a first match with a teenager who talks about nothing but football, a family outing for a change from the usual programme: the stadium creates the kind of memory you are still talking about when you get home.

Finally, to add variety to your stay. Between the beach, outings with the little ones and trips into the hinterland, a match brings a different kind of activity, showing you a sporting, down-to-earth side of Agadir.

You don’t need to be an expert to enjoy it. Football lovers will find lively football, everyone else a local, grassroots atmosphere that no organised excursion can recreate. A tip: talk about it with the children the day before, show them the club’s colours, and the evening will begin well before kick-off.

Staying around ten minutes from the Stade Adrar

The Excellence Agadir Cocons are about ten minutes’ drive from the Stade Adrar, not counting match-day traffic. They are in Hay Adrar, a quiet residential neighbourhood where you can come back and rest after the evening.

Each Cocon is a 75 m² family apartment, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen: you can have a relaxed dinner before setting off, or sit down to a meal together when you get back. For a family or a group of friends, one Cocon welcomes up to six guests, and both Cocons together up to twelve. The residence has private underground parking and a caretaker on site.

For getting to the stadium as for the rest of your stay, the Dacia Sandero Stepway can be hired subject to availability for your dates. The Cocon & Liberté package brings the accommodation and the car together with a single point of contact. And if you are still unsure about the neighbourhood, our article Why choose Hay Adrar as a family weighs up the pros and cons.

Planning a match night

A few simple precautions help you avoid unpleasant surprises, especially on a very busy day.

  • Check the official fixture list before setting your dates: matches, their days and their kick-off times may change.
  • Check how tickets are sold, the gate opening times and the access instructions for each match.
  • Allow plenty of time both ways: the area around the stadium fills up quickly on match nights.
  • For any questions, contact the organiser or the club directly: they are the ones who set the conditions.

To find out more, there are two official sources: the Grand Stade d’Agadir page on the website of SONARGES, which manages the stadium, and the HUSA section on Tadakir, the official ticketing service named by SONARGES. Only use these channels, never a reseller.

Football among the things to do in Agadir

The beach remains at the heart of a stay in Agadir, and rightly so. But a match at the Stade Adrar gives your holiday a more local flavour, and often a more memorable one. With younger children, the days can easily carry on at Crocoparc, Lion Park and Parkids; with keen teenagers, the evening at the stadium may well become the moment they talk about when they get home.
